If your body is not moving as comfortably as it used to, or you keep noticing the same problems returning, chiropractic can be a useful next step. You do not need a diagnosis before you book. We start by listening, assessing, and working out what is most likely driving your symptoms.

What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a regulated healthcare profession in the UK. It focuses on how well the joints of the spine and body are working, and how this can influence movement, comfort, and nerve-related symptoms.
Many people think chiropractic is only about adjustments. In reality, it’s about understanding what’s driving your symptoms and choosing the most suitable approach for you. Some people prefer a gentle style of care, others are comfortable with more direct techniques. Either way, treatment is always adapted to the person in front of us.
How Can Chiropractic Help?
Chiropractic is commonly used for everyday musculoskeletal problems, especially when symptoms affect how you move, sleep, work, or exercise.
You might consider chiropractic if you’re experiencing:
-
Having ongoing or recurring back or neck pain
-
Feeling stiff or restricted when you turn, bend or look over your shoulder
-
Getting pain that runs into an arm or leg, for example sciatica-type pain
-
Noticing headaches that seem linked to neck tension or long periods at a desk or driving
-
Struggling with shoulder, elbow, wrist or hand problems, such as tennis elbow-type pain or some carpal tunnel-type symptoms
-
Experiencing pins and needles or tingling in the arms or legs, once serious causes have been ruled out
-
Avoiding certain movements or activities because you are worried about “setting it off again”
If we feel your symptoms are not suitable for treatment at the clinic, we’ll explain why and help you take the right next step.

Chiropractic Consultation: What To Expect
We do things in two stages. This gives you time to understand what we’ve found and decide how you’d like to proceed.
Appointment 1: Consultation and assessment (45 to 60 minutes)
Your first appointment is focused on understanding you and your problem in detail.
It includes:
-
a thorough discussion about your symptoms, medical history, lifestyle and goals
-
a physical examination, which may include posture checks, movement testing, and neurological or orthopaedic tests where appropriate.
In most cases, we do not go through the full findings or treatment plan during this first visit. This is because your chiropractor needs time to carefully review everything and decide on the most appropriate course of action.
Appointment 2: Report of findings and plan (20 to 30 minutes)
At your second appointment, your chiropractor will:
-
explain their findings clearly
-
talk through treatment options
-
discuss expected timescales and costs
You then decide whether you would like to go ahead with treatment. If you choose not to begin treatment, this second appointment is free of charge.
If you are in acute pain
If you are in acute pain and it is safe and appropriate to treat on the day, your chiropractor may offer treatment during the first appointment. This is always based on clinical judgement.

What Chiropractic Treatment Can Include
If you decide to go ahead, treatment may include:
-
joint mobilisation (gentle movement to reduce stiffness)
-
chiropractic adjustments (a quick, precise technique used when appropriate)
-
movement and exercise advice to support progress between visits
-
guidance on pacing, posture, and everyday habits that may be aggravating the problem
If you would benefit from more soft tissue-focused work, we may recommend osteopathy or massage as part of your care.

A Note on Comfort and Safety
Your comfort matters. We’ll talk you through what we’re doing and why, and you can ask questions at any point.
Most people find chiropractic comfortable. Some feel a bit achy afterwards, similar to post-exercise soreness, and it usually settles quickly.
Chiropractic is considered safe when provided by a qualified, registered chiropractor. Before any treatment, we carry out a detailed case history and examination to make sure care is appropriate for you. If there are reasons to avoid certain techniques, we’ll explain this and adapt the approach.
FAQs About Chiropractic Treatment
I heard chiropractors crack the spine, is that what you do?
Some chiropractic techniques can create a popping sound, but it is not bones “cracking” or being forced back into place. The sound is usually just a release of pressure within the joint, a bit like cracking your knuckles. Also, an adjustment is only one part of chiropractic care. If it’s not appropriate for you, or you’d rather avoid it, we can use gentler joint techniques and focus on movement and guidance instead.
What does an adjustment feel like?
Most people describe an adjustment as a quick, precise movement. It’s usually more comfortable than people expect. You might hear a pop, or you might not. The sound isn’t the goal, and it doesn’t tell us whether treatment has “worked”. What matters is how you feel and function afterwards.
What should I do after my appointment?
Most people do best with a normal, easy day afterwards. Gentle movement is usually helpful. It’s also common to feel a little tender or tired for a short time, similar to post-exercise ache. If we want you to do anything specific, such as a simple movement or a change to your routine, we’ll explain it clearly before you leave.
When should I seek urgent advice?
If you develop symptoms that feel serious or unusual, it’s always best to get urgent medical advice. This includes things like significant weakness, changes in bladder or bowel control, numbness around the groin or saddle area, chest pain, or a sudden severe headache that is not like your usual. If you’re unsure, contact us and we’ll help you decide the safest next step.
Can I carry on with exercise or sport?
Often yes. In many cases, keeping gently active helps recovery. We’ll guide you on what to keep doing, what to reduce for a short time, and how to build back up without repeatedly aggravating the problem. If rest is needed, we’ll explain what type of rest and for how long, so it feels clear rather than vague.
Can chiropractic help if my problem keeps returning?
It often can. Recurring problems are sometimes linked to stiffness, reduced movement, old injuries, or the way your body is coping with daily demands. We’ll look at patterns over time, not just the painful spot. The aim is to help you feel better now, and also reduce the likelihood of the same issue flaring again.
